International Marangoni Association - The International Marangoni Association (IMA) is a non-profit organization devoted to the fostering of interfacial fluid mechanics and transport phenomena. While flows driven by the Marangoni effect represent an important class of systems, all aspects of interfacial transport are covered.  A main objective of IMA is the organization of scientific conferences. It is intended to expose young scientists to research themes and applications of interfacial fluid mechanics, to network among researchers from academia and industry, and to promote new collaborations. In the past, conferences have been organized at different places worldwide every two years.IMA is committed to the support of young scientists in the field.   TOPICS OF INTEREST Topics in fundamental science include gas-liquid flows, thermocapillary flows, Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, Rayleigh-Taylor instability, Marangoni-Bénard instability, jets, solidification and electrochemical instabilities and other transport processes. These fundamental studies find industrial applications in the fields of bubbles and foams, materials processing such as crystal growth, novel processing involving interfaces and nano structures such as electro-dissolution, oil recovery, environmental problems, separation technology, space processing, heat transfer, corrosion-erosion and biomedical transport in the human airways or contact lenses, to name only a few examples.   HISTORY IMA was founded in 1999 in Rauischholzhausen (Germany) as a loose organization of international scientists interested in interfacial fluid mechanics and transport phenomena. Castle Rauischholzhausen is the conference center of the University of Giessen.   MEMBERSHIP There is no membership fee. Everybody can become a member of IMA by taking part in its activities and by sharing his/her experience with the IMA community. IMA1, Rauischholzhausen (Germany), September 12-16, 2001IMA2, Brussels (Belgium), July 14-17, 2004IMA3, Gainesville (Florida), November 15-17, 2006IMA4, Noda (Japan), October 21-23, 2008IMA5, Florence (Italy), June 7-10, 2010IMA6, Haifa (Israel), June 18-21, 2012 As a rule no invited or keynote lectures are given. Moreover, there are no parallel sessions. Each oral presentation is given equal time. A substantial amount of time is provided for poster presentations in order to stimulate informal discussions.   SUPPORT Financial support for the IMA conferences has been provied by a number of organizations. Among these are the US National Science Foundation, NASA, ESA, the Russian Cultural Centres, and local university hosts, viz., the University of Florida, Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen, Free University of Brussels, University of Paris, Tokyo University of Science and the Technion.
